6/21 - Rex's Bday & Visiting Mom's Side of the Family

6/21

The long-awaited day arrived! It was Rex's 19th bday! Yup, that's right, Rex got his girl Bey [!!!!!!] to come! (Lol jk I'm a pro at MS Paint.)

We ate breakfast and all that, then his mom took me and him to go to see his parents' next investment. They bought a large section of a new (still under construction) tea mall. Apparently, it's going to be an entire mall solely dedicated to selling tea! Pretty crazy... Only in China...

Most of the building is still under construction, but they have set up this one shop, where they display (and sell) ancient tea-related things. (Really expensive because they're really old...)

This bed was 8,000,000 yuan. And I got to sit on it. NBD! (PRETTY BIG DEAL.)
Don't know why anyone would ever buy it because it is wooden and probably the most uncomfortable thing.

This one was 800,000 yuan. Apparently people put a table-thing in the middle and have tea on this. I guess it's a couch-bed. Maybe the ancient times' version of a futon?

Then, we went to this place, which looks like a freaking resort and has like 10 buildings, but it's a... restaurant?

We watched the NBA Finals Game 7 and drank tea, while we waited for lunchtime to roll around and for Rex's relatives to all show up. Neither of us really knows anything about basketball, Rex just likes to watch and scream when anything exciting happens. And of course Rex was rooting for the Heat to repeat, and of course they won... Needless to say, there was a lot of screaming.

I didn't take a picture of the massive table of food because I felt that might be disrespectful or odd or something. Instead, I took a picture of this rice wine that I took the smallest sip of. First time drinking rice wine!!! So strong, and it burns all the way down. Never drinking that again.

After lunch, Rex wanted to go to karaoke. There was a place nearby that had karaoke and mahjong. So his relatives went to play mahjong, and we went to sing karaoke. He called up a bunch of his friends, but a lot of them were busy or didn't respond... So we sat around for a while singing with each other. The karaoke room also came with a waitress/hostess/xiaojie. She probably felt so bad for us because it was just us two for like two hours, until two of Rex's friends showed up.

Rex sang in a high-pitched voice.

Around 5 o'clock, I said bye to Rex, and his mom drove me to get my things from their house and then drove me to my relatives' (mom's side) house.

This is my family on my mom's side (missing one cousin, who was in Beijing celebrating his 8th grade graduation). The two cousins are the fourth from the left (Qinqin), and the one on the right (Yongyong).

Didn't take a picture of all of the food, but here's some of it.
Me and grandpa :')
Check out the background, that's their neighbor's house. Their house is cement though.

After dinner, we played some mahjong, and I won a bunch of times. And they thought I didn't know how to play. Harrumph. If we had played for money, I would've been a richer man.
