Taking the subway to Pudong Airport takes about 2 hours. And I want to get to the airport about 2 hours early. The flight is scheduled for 11:45, which meant I had to leave by 7:45.
I ended up leaving at 7:15 after a light breakfast because I was paranoid of missing my flight. Also, both of my flights are supposed to have meals! How exciting! Go Chinese airlines!
On the subway right now, it is rush hour. Some observations:
It is extremely crowded and very sweaty. People like to get all up on ya and lean on me. So, I stick my elbows into their sides. Some of these people are so nasty... One man had the worst breath ever that stank up half the car.
Also, Shanghai men have an interesting taste in style. Many men wear purple/pink striped shirts. Popped collars are apparently acceptable for work. I have seen an above average amount of men with a large mole, especially on their neck, with multiple hairs sprouting and protruding from it.
I have also seen a few men really, really picking their nose. Like almost-their-entire-finger deep.
_________________________________________________________________________________I got to the airport around 9:20 and went to the place to pick up my tix, only to find out that my flight had been cancelled due to storms in Chengdu. So many enraged, shouting Chinese people. Some in Sichuanese, some in Putonghua. I still don't know why, but it is so entertaining and funny to me.
After waiting around and waiting and listening to more shouting, I made a new friend, who became my translator. I was so scared that my terrible Chinese would not be able to figure out how to get a different plane ticket and to get to Chengdu.
Then, the ticket lady miraculously discovered another flight to Chengdu that had only been delayed on Air China at 1:10pm, and we got tix!
Now we are just at a restaurant in front of the gate. Just ate lunch, and waiting to board. I had some freaking 50RMB beef noodles in case you were wondering.
They weren't worth it...

Although I usually love airplane food... the airplane food on Sichuan Airlines was just as bad as Air Canada...
They gave the the choice of 'chicken' or 'beef', so I picked beef. Ended up with some rice, some meatballs, half of a tea-flavored egg, some rice vermicelli underneath (all of those tasted really nasty)... Disappointing as usual.
Got picked up at the airport by Rex, Annie, and Rex's mom. Rex and Annie grew up in Chengdu but are currently going to school at Mercer County Community College. Also, they are cousins (Rex's dad is Annie's mom's older brother). Because my plane was late and whatnot, we went straight to dinner, where Rex's dad and Annie's mom joined us.
HOTPOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of the tasties I had the privilege to eat... Goose intestine, Cow intestine, Duck feet, and at the bottom of my bowl is Pig brain!
After dinner, we went to buy some fruit
Then, we went to my grandparents' houses and said hi and chatted for a bit. After all of that, it was about 10:30, and Rex's mom was shocked that I had never gone for a foot wash. Apparently it's one of the big things to do in Chengdu, so we went to get a foot wash and full body massage! I swear I kept all of my clothes on for it!
When it was over, it was around 12:00. We went to Rex's house, ate some fruit, and went to bed.
